  • Chris Davies – Principal Primary School
  • Sikhumbuzo Dlamini – Chairman Swaziland Alumni
  • Sibusiso Zikalala – Secretary

John O’Shea was welcomed by the newly formed Swaziland Alumni and he pledged to offer his full support towards the fundraising targets and the 2010 Alumni celebrations.

John explained that the St. Marks International Alumni was founded around 10 years ago by Lyn Marx and evolved into the current website where former and current students and teachers from around the world can keep in contact, share memorabilia and organise reunions. The website has also proved a useful fundraiser with around £3,000 donated in just over one year. Now that the Alumni have gained charity status in the UK , this will allow us to benefit from tax returns and also approach corporations for sponsorship.

It was agreed that before approaching corporations, we need detailed project proposals from both schools and also a summary of the benefit to the current students and / or teachers. Both principals agreed to work together to provide this information in the near future.

It was mentioned by John that recent negative publicity in the Swazi media seriously hampers our ability to fundraise. Both Principals agreed to put up a united front to try and quash malicious reporting and promote the positive aspects of St Mark’s as this can only benefit the students and the next generation of Swazi academics.

At the close of meeting John said his farewell and vowed to return in 12 months time to discuss the progress over the next year. Both Alumni agreed to keep each other updated on developments progress by e-mail.
